The Association of Surfing Professionals 2011 World Tour started in Australia, and continued with events in places like Hawaii and Brazil. Long Beach, NY was the sixth stop on the world tour. Anchored by this competition, The 2011 Nike US Open of Surfing took place from July 30th to August 7th.
Nike 6.0, Nikes clothing line for action sports athletes, is one of the presenting sponsors of the US Open of Surfing competition this year. Nike 6.0 chose to rent a home in our very own Arverne By The Sea, in the Rockaways, to host a surfer hot spot and beach home, which they are calling Rockaway11. The door was open to the public from August 3rd through the 14th to coincide with the Nike US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA. Surfers, skaters and enthusiasts were welcomed to stop by and use the beachfront home for community work, photo studio work, watch a movie or just hang out.
The beach home was also where Nike invited editors to preview some of their newest clothing collections, including Air Force 1-inspired snowboarding boots and ski jackets, on August 11th and 13th. Succeeding this preview were surf lessons, only steps away, in the water with pro surfer, Matt Keenan.
