RN Pathways Celebrates National Nurses Day With Launch of New Digital and Human Network Focused on Helping More Nurses

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) May 6, 2009

Today marks National Nurses Day and the beginning of National Nurses' Week; this year's theme is "Nurses: Building a Healthy America." RN Pathways, one of the most unique nursing organizations in the United States, is celebrating with the launch a new network to further its mission of helping nurses build healthy careers.

"We chose to bring this new resource to the world on National Nurses Day because helping nurses and their families is our passion," said RN Pathways spokesperson Joe Cockrell. "Now more than ever, nurses want more than just a listing of jobs on a static job board- they want personal expert advice and guidance. RN Pathways provides that in a way that is already changing the industry."

The website is one component of a unique digital and human network that RN Pathways has formed over the last several months- especially by incorporating social media platforms (such as Facebook and Twitter) into daily communication with nurses who seek career advice.

"We offer solutions for nurses no matter what their preference- whether that be email and online communication or live conversations with a real person," Cockrell said. "With today's technology, those live conversations no longer have to be on the phone; we've seen a dramatic increase in veteran-level nurses engaging in social media online- soon we'll be connecting with just as many nurses on Facebook as we are over the phone."

As part of the celebration, RN Pathways also launched contest where nurses who register as new users on the RNpathways.com website can win an iPod touch. In addition, there is an online promotion for those who want to salute nurses during National Nurses Week; you can win a new MacBook

Arlington, Virginia (PRWEB) September 30, 2005

Mr. David Janes, National Chairman for the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, today congratulated South Dakota State University (SDSU) as a 2005 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient.

SDSU is one of only 15 employers selected in July 2005 from nearly 1,500 nominations from National Guardsmen and Reservists for this prestigious award from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The 2005 recipients include Alticor, Incorporated, Citizens Financial Group, Eaton Corporation, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, IDACORP, Los Angeles Police Department, Louisiana Department of Safety & Corrections, Pioneer Financial Services, Sears, Roebuck and Co., the State of Delaware, USAA, and Wachovia. The Award ceremonies will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2005 the 10th anniversary of this prestigious award program.

“We are pleased to have this recognition for the many efforts that the members of the university family have provided for our students and staff who have been deployed,” said SDSU President Peggy Gordon Miller. “We feel that while they are doing their part for us, each of us needed to do our part for them. While they are doing the big things, we don’t want to fail to do the little things that could help them here.

“Everyone has tried to find a role in the support system,” added Miller. “Faculty have found ways to help them finish courses on weekends, on the Internet, through the mails or by whatever means and in whatever time the students had available. Others have helped with mailing books, getting refunds and checking on their families. Some have found addresses and sent e-mail messages or a cheery note with the basketball scores”.

Mr. Keith Corbett. Air National Guard Colonel, and Assistant to the Dean, nominated SDSU for the award. “As with all outstanding organizations, the leadership set the example and South Dakota State University is no exception. Led by Dr, Peggy Gordon Miller, the leadership team at SDSU provides the values and leadership that recognizes and rewards their military members for the experience and skills they bring to the workplace”, said Corbett.

“All Americans can be justly proud of our Nation’s employers for their exceptional support of our men and women in the National Guard and Reserves during these demanding times. South Dakota State University, through their personnel programs provide a fine example of an employer’s recognition of the sacrifice these young people make in defense of our freedoms and way of life. The Department of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is a tribute to SDSU for their leadership and support”, said David Janes.

SDSU is a four-year comprehensive university offering degrees at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. Founded in 1881, SDSU is the state’s only land-grant institution, serving the people of South Dakota through academics, research and extension. The university offers 200 majors, minors and options from these colleges: Agriculture and Biological Sciences; Arts and Science; Education and Counseling; Engineering; Family and Consumer Sciences; General Studies and Outreach Programs; Nursing; and Pharmacy.

Then-Secretary of Defense William Perry instituted the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in 1996 under the auspices of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award publicly recognizes employers, who were nominated by their employees who voluntarily serve in the National Guard and Reserve, for exceptional support above the requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation, and, if needed, mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees.

As the 1.2 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions that require extraordinary actions on the part of everyday citizens, ESGR will continue to be the informational agency for the employers of America’s Patriots. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at http://www.esgr.mil, or call the National Committee at 800-336-4590.

Celebrities Rally with Kids in Nationwide Effort to Promote Music Making as NAMM Wraps Up Second Annual National Wanna Play Music Week

Carlsbad, Calif. (PRWEB) May 8, 2009

NAMM, the 108-year-old, not-for-profit association of the international music products industry, concluded its annual National Wanna Play Music Week today, after a monumental period of music making that drew the participation of stars, such as Kevin Bacon and Yoko Ono. With the goal to build awareness of the proven benefits of playing musical instruments for people of all ages, NAMM executed the week-long series of events to encourage the music maker in every American.

Music Week Launch with The Bacon Brothers, Yoko Ono and the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" House Band

NAMM kicked off the week with "Music Monday," a five-year tradition started by the Canadian-based Coalition for Music Education that encourages musicians, music organizations, school bands and music lovers everywhere to play music at the same time to demonstrate the galvanizing power of making music. During NAMM's second year participating in "Music Monday," more 2,000 schools and organizations rallied across North America to simultaneously play music together with celebrity musicians participating in the effort on both coasts.

In New York, The Bacon Brothers, featuring acclaimed actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, award-winning film and TV composer Michael Bacon, helped to launch National Wanna Play Music Week in the U.S., and appeared nationally on "Fox & Friends," on behalf of NAMM. On Music Monday, The Bacon Brothers performed before a crowd of students at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, promoting music in schools, along with Yoko Ono and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.

"We wanted to show our support for what NAMM and others are doing to help encourage people to get out and play music," said Kevin Bacon. "Music is obviously a huge part of our lives. Playing a musical instrument can help drive a passion that can last a lifetime and play an integral part in maintaining a healthy mind and body."

In Los Angeles, late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" lent the talents of its house band, Cleto & the Cletones, toward the effort of making music. Bandleader Cleto Escobedo III and lead guitarist Toshi Yanagi performed music with a band class at Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles. Students were later treated to a private jam session with Cleto & the Cletones, visiting the set of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and hanging out with the entire band and Jimmy Kimmel himself.

"The tremendous response to National Wanna Play Music Week, the popularity of our music-making tools, and the support from so many notable music makers reinforces our belief in the power of music making," said Joe Lamond, NAMM's president and CEO. "NAMM is consistently seeking out new ways to connect people with the enjoyment and proven benefits of playing music and creating simple ways for anyone to get involved. It's never too late to learn to play a musical instrument, whether you are five or 85. Even beyond NAMM's National Wanna Play Music Week, any time is a great time to give music making a try."

Tools to Make Music Making Easy

According to the recent "2009 Public Attitudes Toward Music" Gallup survey *, 85 percent of Americans wish they could play music. In response to that desire, NAMM created several user-friendly services and tools aimed to help anyone begin to play music. With the goal of educating consumers on the benefits of playing music and empowering them to easily find quality music instructors, NAMM also has developed a variety of tools, which were unveiled during National Wanna Play Music Week, including:
